BMW had a recall campaign in the mid 80s for these cars and most cars were upgraded but a few cars did not get upgraded. The easit way to tell is to look at the distributor rotor. If the rotor pushes on then you will need the !2-7720 original style wire set. If the rotor is held on by three allen bolts then you will need the 12-7719 upgraded wire set
